Dmitry Medvedev Dance Parody Censored by Russian TV

A video of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev dancing at a university reunion to the song ‘American Boy’ went viral when it was posted online, in April this year.

Recently, a comedy troupe ‘Prima’, competing in a popular TV show KVN, recorded a parody video that is making fun of Medvedev’s dance skills.

Sounds pretty harmless, right? However, it didn’t pass censorship of Russia’s Channel One and their performance was edited out when the program was broadcast. The state TV has not said why the parody was censored.

It does seem that – when it comes to making fun of their country’s leaders – Russian TV executives are quick to lose their sense of humor.

Medvedev’s press secretary said the Russian leader would have had no problem with it.

“He has posted links to some of the parodies of himself he likes most on Twitter,” Natalya Timakova told the Russkaya Sluzhba Novostei radio station. “I don’t see any problem with it.”
