It is a giant, inflatable sculpture called ‘Is Land’ and it was last seen at the Secret Garden Party in rural Cambridgeshire at 3am on the 24th of July. Due to ignorant vandals who cut the tether ropes holding the balloon down, ‘Is Land’ is currently floating at an unknown height somewhere within the atmosphere.
The search is still on, so if what looks like a floating chunk of earth turns up in your grandma’s back garden, or if you think you see a new planet intercept your flight, please contact the authorities.
The $15,000 helium-filled sculpture was a project created by Royal College of Art graduates Sarah Cockings and Laurence Symonds and it was supposed to visit this year’s Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert later this month.
Despite the fact that the original Is Land is missing, the giant sculpture will be attending the desert ball thanks to the people at the Secret Garden Party who will fund the new Is Land Balloon.
