‘Flying Trucks’ in the Swiss Alps

Even though it looks like a scene straight out of a James Bond movie, it is just another working day for the Swiss construction consortium, Groupement Marti Implenia (GMI), ‘flying’ a fleet of Astra HD8 trucks to the construction site of a new pumped-storage power plant at Nant de Drance in the Swiss Canton of Valais.

Since the construction site is 6500 feet above the sea level, all the machinery used for the tunnel operations has to be transported using a heavy duty cable ropeway, built by Fatzer AG and Garaventa.
