Did You Know: The Longest Wrestling Bout in History

Did you know that the 1912 Summer Olympics Greco-Roman wrestling match in Stockholm between Finn Alfred Asikainen and Russian Martin Klein lasted 11 hours and 40 minutes?

Klein eventually won but was too exhausted to participate in the final match so he settled for the silver handing Sweden’s Claes Johansson the gold.

Klein and Asikainen were afforded brief rests every 30 minutes, but their match led to time limits being imposed from the 1924 Games onward.
